Eclectica, a Portland owned indie style clothing boutique selling alternative clothing for the the terminally hip, is among the first to adopt ShopGreen, a new web application enabling customers to support environmental projects. Projects include wind energy, hydro energy, reforestations, and methane gas capture.
When making a purchase at http://eclecticaclothing.com, customers can opt to invest an additional 1% of their order total to reduce their carbon footprint and view the amount of CO2 that will be offset. They will also be provided with a ShopGreen tracking ID to monitor their carbon offset purchases.
“We are very excited to be a part of ShopGreen project.” says founder Kiondra Kuiper. “We hope it will raise awareness of how little it costs to help out a cause you believe in.”

The story of Eclectica started from my frustration with the lack of good fashion in corporate chains and the lack of good prices in area boutiques. I knew that it was possible to find unique clothing from local and indie designers that were at prices people loved. My motto has always been ‘Just because you pay more, doesn’t mean get more.’ I believe that the thought you put into how you dress says much more than how much you paid for a brand name.
One day in late October 2005, I was browsing Craigslist out of boredom when I came upon a listing for a store front in one of Portland’s most loved shopping districts; The Hawthorne District. Figuring nothing would come of it, I immediately went to the location just to check it out. However, the moment I saw the space, I knew it was mine.
I didn’t have a business degree, or knowledge of the fashion industry, but I learned quickly. My first stops for alternative indie clothing were at fashion districts; miles of nothing but clothing, shoes, purses, accessories, and jewellery. It was a shopping love affair; every girl’s dream. My next adventure to find indie clothing led me to tradeshows. What an overwhelming experience! I didn’t even know where to begin. I caught on extremely quick and began wheeling and dealing with some of the most amazing indie labels around.
Six months into the business, I became antsy for a website. I knew nothing about programming, but I quickly learned I had a knack for it. Exactly one year after I opened the brick and mortar, in November 2006, EclecticaClothing.com was born.
After 4 years in the Hawthorne District, I decided that my passion for programming as well as fashion would be more cohesive in the virtual world. This would also provide me the time to concentrate fully on improving the site, and hunting down new and fresh indie clothing labels.
Here at EclecticaClothing.com we take pride in hand selecting each and every item we carry. We buy what we love and what we’d love to wear. Bringing something special to our customers is what we look forward to each and every day, and we promise we will continue to bring in the best indie clothing, shoes, and accessories at prices that won’t make your pockets bleed.
